Séverine Gambier

Séverine Gambier (Paris, 1956) is a self-taught French artist. Her works have gained increasing recognition in recent years, with several successful exhibitions, starting with her presence at the Halle Saint Pierre Museum in the heart of Paris.
Gambier began her artistic career practising painting and collage, and it was precisely with her experience in collage that, starting in the late 1990s, she developed a highly personal compositional synthesis, a technique that “breaks up and recomposes” selected antique porcelain and majolica pieces. decorative productions with different themes and subjects, for which and with which he constructs a “new narrative” by patiently reassembling the tiles applied to the board. This iconoclastic practice, driven by an indomitable need for freedom and vital impetus, imprints identity on the anonymity of the tile and recognises the artist’s personal history in collective history.
