Sara Vasini – Passaggio all’azzurro
Opening: 4 October at 6 p.m.
Curated by Giovanni Gardini, with texts in the catalogue by Giovanni Gardini and Giorgia Berardinelli.
The Grisaille paintings in the rooms of the Diocesan Museum of Faenza inspired the site-specific work entitled Passaggio all’Azzurro by Sara Vasini. Grisaille is a monochrome painting technique based on various shades of grey.
The process was adopted in the 12th century by Cistercian monks for the stained glass windows of their abbeys, in accordance with the dictates of St. Bernard, who condemned chromatic excesses. An installation of various empty frames of different sizes, a sort of mosaic composition of tiles, where no two are identical.
The frames contain a grey background of fine sandpaper, which during the installation phase will receive a trace of blue. Blue is always the sky.
The memory of this passage, will be projected into the next room through a video reproduction.
