Zhanna Kadyrova: Palianitsya

Through the language of art, the exhibition, curated by Maria Rita Bentini, invites the public to rethink the tragic condition of the war with the devastation and division that ensues, giving the Ukrainian artist the opportunity to tell not only her own, but also the story of many of her compatriots in this dramatic historical moment. The exhibition features stone works by Zhanna Kadyrova and a documentary curated by Ivan Sautkin, made by Kiev-based professional filmmakers Olena Zashko and Ganna Yeresko. From the Venice Art Biennale 2022 to date, the project has toured numerous countries and important exhibition spaces.
Zhanna Kadyrova works with recycled and everyday materials, often associated with construction and architecture, such as tiles, ceramics, bricks and cement, adopting the mosaic technique to bring out the contradictions that characterise contemporary societies, starting with the history of her country in the post-Soviet era.
The artist’s work ideally accompanied the Le Vie dell’Amicizia Concert of the 2018 edition of Ravennafestival, which maestro Riccardo Muti conducted in Kiev and Ravenna.
