The conference, curated by Alberto Giorgio Cassani, will trace Galassi’s career as a mosaic artist in the light of some of his articles from the late 1920s and early 1930s, in which the Ravenna-born artist defined the mosaic as “Un fine, non un mezzo”.
Enrico Galassi (Ravenna 1907 – Pisa 1980), described by Alberto Savinio as ‘one of the most intelligently “modern” painters, a brilliant architect who creates the human dwelling from its inner needs, a machine builder, an inventor, a man in the mould of Leonardo’, to whom next year in his hometown, the first exhibition organised by a public institution (opening on 29 February 2020 at Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste); in addition to his interests in painting, architecture, ceramics and poetry, he was one of the innovators of mosaic art in the twentieth century.
