Tribute to the mosaicist Romolo Papa on 100th anniversary of his birth 1923-2023

Exhibition curated by Marna Ortolani, Vittorio Bulgarelli, Felice Nittolo. Romolo Papa (1923-1996) was born into a farming family and attended the first classes in his village, Sant’Alberto. He soon began to work the land. From a very young age, however, he nurtured a strong passion for drawing, which he nurtured almost secretly. His uncle, recognising his propensity for art, took him with him to Ravenna to attend free Academy courses in painting, decoration, sculpture and mosaic. In 1948, the Municipality of Ravenna proposed to the mosaicists of Ravenna to create the first Gruppo Mosaicisti to restore and promote the great artistic heritage of Ravenna: Papa thus took part in the main post-war restoration campaigns, as well as working on new mosaic works commissioned by public and private entities in Italy and abroad.
