Rebecca Sforzani – Pialassa

Rebecca Sforzani‘s work Pialassa depicts some of the bird species of the Ravenna piallasse ecosystem: large lagoons that take their name from the dialectal form pia and laza (lit. catch and release), which indicates the changing of the tides. While walking in the San Vitale pine forest, the artist discovered the presence of hunting barrels, which emerge from the water level. In autumn, the barrels are hiding places to hunters, while at the end of the hunting season, nesting of certain bird species takes place in the same barrels. The work was placed in the crypt of the Chiesa di San Francesco, which is flooded and subject to the influences of the tides.
