Curated by Linda Kniffitz. The largest space we share is planet Earth: humans, animals, plants, microorganisms and minerals coexist in a balance that we take for granted. It seems completely normal to us to have states, borders, religions, classifications and definitions, cardinal points created to orient us within this tiny ball of earth and water floating in the infinite universe.
In the beginning, there was Pangaea, the Mother of all lands, a single continent bathed by Pantalassa, a single ocean.
All we know today are the fragments of that land that split apart and drifted away, creating spaces
filled with seas, oceans and rivers.
Just as tiles are created from the disintegration of a single block of marble or a sheet of glass, only to return to
form a single element called a mosaic, so too have we mosaic artists, coming from different cultures, experiences and
countries, decided to come together and create a unique space that tells the story of how differences can converge
in a feminine vision that belongs to everyone: restoring an ideal Pangea in which differences are a source of wealth,
borders are destinations to be crossed, and fragments of stories are a universal heritage. The history of women is a testament to resilience, strength and hope. Each mosaicist will represent her idea of womanhood through a mosaic that speaks of lived experiences, human stories, lives that come together under one immense feminine roof, that of
Mother Earth. There are seven continents, seven artists representing them, inspired by an idea of womanhood, plus
an eighth artist who will bring Panthalassa to life: Lea Ciambelli (Ravenna), Virginia Zanotti (Cesena), Ylenia Roma (Ravenna), Oxana Panyushkina (Ravenna), Tiziana Mondini (Narni), Ayala Ibragimova (Kazakhstan), Afsanch Ashki (Iran), Mia Tavonatti (USA).
