Omar Mismar – Studies in mosaic
Opening: 18 October at 6,30 p.m.
On the occasion of the 9th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste will host the parallel solo exhibitions of the artists Shahzia Sikander and Omar Mismar, curated by Serena Simoni and Daniele Torcellini. The exhibitions aim to explore, and bring to the attention of the public, the presence and role of mosaic within contemporary and multidisciplinary artistic practices that address crucial issues related to identity, politics and social tensions of the present.
Omar Mismar (1986, Lebanon) lives and works in Beirut. He is a multidisciplinary artist who investigates the intertwining of art and politics, the theme of desire and the aesthetics of disaster. Using material interventions, formal reflections and strategies of translation, Mismar employs photography, video, mosaic, installations and other media to explore social dynamics as well as the declinations and everyday representations of conflict.
