MAG | Sara Vasini – Paradiso
Solo exhibition by Sara Vasini. A few years ago, Sara acquired a cartoon – a graphic relief on set-design paper painted with pigments – by Romolo Papa, dating from 1953. The cartoon depicts a Saint Peter from Ravenna Cathedral. The idea is to recreate the cartoon in two versions: a Saint Peter entirely in pink and a Saint Peter entirely in blue.
The original Saint Peter will be displayed in the centre, with the pink version on the left and the blue version on the right. A video will be projected onto the wall opposite this triptych installation. The video will show the triptych itself, and gradually two nude figures will appear (wearing white underpants, inspired by the same white underpants worn by Romolo Papa in some of his self-portraits taken in Piazza Armerina during a restoration campaign).
On the left, on the ‘Rosa’, a woman; and on the right, on the ‘Azzurro’, a man.
During the short video – which will loop continuously – the two will draw closer, gazing into each other’s eyes, until they find themselves standing before Romolo Papa’s ‘San Pietro’.
