Jonathan VanDyke – In the eternity of the temporary
Opening: 6 December at 6 p.m.
December sees the return of the third Spazio Neutro event, curated by MAR curator Giorgia Salerno. The exhibition, which offers the public an alternative perspective on viewing and understanding contemporary artworks, hosts Jonathan VanDyke’s site-specific project. An American artist and performer, VanDyke began by studying the mosaics of San Vitale, Galla Placidia and Sant’Apollinare in Ravenna, creating a modular environment in which the tiles are transformed into painted fabric textures and the decorative element is offered to visitors as a tool for contemplation.
During the opening night, the performance Attorno a questo mio corpo / Around This Body of Mine, created by VanDyke together with performers Saba Shabbir and Fred Brown, will be presented to the public. An intense and intimate action that explores the relationship between body and space, evoking tensions, balances and forms of relationship that permeate our present.
(Repeat performance: 31 January 2026, 6.30–9.30 p.m.)
SPAZIO NEUTRO overturns traditional conventions of museum enjoyment: here, the public does not merely observe, but participates, inhabits the space and changes its perception. A living laboratory of ideas that focuses on current issues such as the relational museum, the decolonisation of collections and the transformations introduced by generative artificial intelligence.
