Inferno in bottega – Guided tour

Ahead of the celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, which will take place in 2021, Ravenna is preparing to reaffirm the recognition of the debt that Italian civilisation as a whole owes to Dante.
To mark the deep cultural and civic bond that links the city to the great poet, the CNA Mosaic Artists wish to develop an initiative that follows in the tradition of visual commentary on the Divine Comedy, bringing together two powerful symbols of Ravenna’s identity: Dante and the mosaic.
Each workshop has created a mosaic work inspired by the characters and iconographic themes drawn from ‘Inferno’. These will be displayed on coordinated supports, forming an ideal exhibition route linking the workshops and shop windows across the city.
At the opening, and then on a weekly basis, a professional guide will accompany tourists on a walking tour, providing in-depth insights into the iconography and technique of the mosaic panels.
This project aims to expand the programme of the 5th International Mosaic Biennale in 2017.
The project will be repeated in 2019 with ‘Purgatory’ and in 2021 with ‘Paradise’.
