Felice Nittolo – Pianeta Europa

The niArt Gallery cultural association, embracing the proposal of artist Felice Nittolo (who in 2005 created a mosaic on the façade of niArt itself entitled “I colori della città” – lit.The colours of the city), proposes to continue this initial gesture by extending it to the façades of the houses along the street. The sense of community can also be seen in the achievement of a common goal, aimed at taking a step forward towards urban qualification and characterisation. Mosaics are a distinctive feature of our city: mosaics are proposed for an intervention aimed at making a place and a street more welcoming, to develop greater social cohesion without losing sight of the context and the overall vision. The proposal, in addition to dialoguing with the existing mosaic intervention, is consistent with the location and highlights its unique features. The south side of Via Anastagi is characterised by houses that make it unique in terms of colours and shapes, and there will be as many mosaic interventions as there are member states of Europe. Twenty-seven mosaic hemispheres in the colours of the member countries of Europe will be affixed to the facades of the houses to symbolise a united Europe. The square in front (Piazza Gian Battista Rossi) could thus become a place of rest and refreshment for those (mainly tourists) who walk from the San Vitale complex to the Mausoleum of Theodoric.
