Dalia Tvadauskaite – Musivale
Musivale is an exhibition project created by Dalia Tvadauskaite, in collaboration with Pixel Mosaici and curated by Giorgio Vernuccio, for the Residenze Musive II section of the seventh GAeM International Award – Young Artists and Mosaic 2025 as part of the 9th Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic.
Musivale combines the language of mosaic with music and post-technology, transforming a column into a sensory and participatory organism.
The vertical structure narrates an ascent: from vine leaves inspired by the bas-reliefs of the National Museum to the stars of Galla Placidia, rewritten with five points by artificial intelligence in a new constellation.
The work intertwines different materials and times: construction pipes evoke Ravenna’s industrial past, while enamels and marbles recall the Byzantine tradition. Inside the structure, cables, lights and sensors react to the touch of the public. Seven sensitive points correspond to the seven musical notes, transforming the column into an instrument and a vibrating body, where every touch generates sounds.
The mosaic, from a decorative surface, clinging to the rhythm of the technique, becomes a dynamic composition, adding acoustic fragments to the mosaic tiles and prompting reflection on the possibility of a synaesthetic language in which matter and frequency coincide. Repetition, variation and vibration replace contemplation, vision becomes listening, matter becomes voice, and the public enters into a direct relationship with the memory of the city and the living energy of its materials.
