A travelling exhibition taking place across the workshops and other venues involved during the Mosaic Biennale.
Ahead of the celebrations marking the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death, which will take place in 2021, Ravenna is preparing to reaffirm the debt that Italian civilisation as a whole owes to Dante.
To mark the deep cultural and civic bond that links the city to the great Poet, the mosaic artists of CNA wish to develop an initiative that follows in the tradition of visual commentary on the Divine Comedy, bringing together two powerful symbols of Ravenna’s identity: Dante and the mosaic.
Each workshop has created a mosaic work inspired by the characters and iconographic themes drawn from Inferno.
These will be displayed on coordinated supports as part of an ideal exhibition route linking the workshops and shop windows across the city.
To mark the opening, and then on a weekly basis, the guided tour led by a professional guide will start at Dante’s Tomb and then continue to various workshops and exhibition venues in Ravenna’s historic centre.
This project aims to expand the programme of the 5th International Mosaic Biennale in 2017. The experience will be repeated in 2019 with Purgatorio and in 2021 with Paradiso.
