Barbara Liverani Studio – Kimono
A Feminine Mosaic in Three Settings
The exhibition stems from a reflection on the female figure and from Barbara Liverani’s passion for Japan and for the textiles that have always characterised her works.
Her mosaic kimonos take shape from the stories about the women in Onuki Yuko’s family and from the accounts that accompany each of the garments on display.
The works, crafted from raku ceramics and mosaic, are unique and original pieces in which Barbara offers a contemporary and evocative interpretation of a feminine world that is distant yet, at the same time, not dissimilar to the reality of Italian women.
In the nearby workshop ‘Botteghina progetti sartoriali’, the little mosaic kimonos meet Ninzdrì’s Romagna-style kimonos, tailored garments crafted from fabrics decorated using the traditional Romagna printing technique, which is based on the principle of woodblock printing – the same as that used in ancient Japanese prints, from which Ninzdrì draws inspiration for the motifs that make its kimonos, designed for the contemporary woman, truly unique. A new print design will be unveiled during the exhibition.
As part of the quest for fine raw materials, the exhibition moves to its third venue at Leonardi Dolciumi, where the small mosaic kimonos float amidst the aroma of Japanese chocolate produced using Meiji’s artisanal ‘bean-to-bar’ techniques.
The closing event of the Kimono exhibition will take place at the B&B Chez Papa, where on Sunday 29 October at 3.30 pm, Nicoletta Tul from La Casa del Tè will host a tasting of two extremely rare teas during the traditional Japanese tea ceremony (info and bookings: tel. 0544 37414).
