Andrea Salvatori -Ikebana Rock’n’Roll

The winner of the 56th Premio Faenza, Andrea Salvatori, was trained in the Bertozzi & Casoni workshop where he learned the secrets of obtaining the creations of his imagination from clay, thus enabling him to develop his own highly personal and recognizable path. His works combine pre-existing forms that are reworked and juxtaposed, in a sort of collage – or mosaic – with oversized geometric shapes. It was this form of artistic production, whose contrast with mosaic technique is merely superficial, that led to the decision to exhibit some of his latest works in the atrium of Palazzo Rasponi. The works presented are the result of a totally innovative confrontation between the artist and a special 3D printer, designed by the WASP company to be used by artists working with ceramics, enabling them to explore innovative opportunities related to the latest digital technologies. Thanks to this combination of modernity and tradition, Salvatori has created a series of surprising vases. The artist formed these works by applying ceramic spheres to the fresh clay that had been worked by the machine, thus modifying the shape and silhouette of the original projects. Diverse techniques and materials are combined to obtain a remarkable result that leaves the viewer surprised and bewildered. This is one way in which the concept of mosaics and ceramics can be interpreted to produce a fascinating new synthesis.
