A for Accademia, O for OroBurri

A for Accademia, O for OroBurri is an exhibition, curated by Maria Rita Bentini, Paola Babini and Academy of fine Arts of Ravenna, which brings together the mosaic works of the young artists of the Biennium of Mosaic that have been inspired by a work by Alberto Burri, from a private collection, already linked to their interest in the precious material of gold. Inserts of gold had in fact already surfaced in the artist’s poetic world when he investigated the poverty of sacks in the 1950s. In the 1990s, it became a dominant presence, as a counterpoint to black. The Academy students looked at gold in relation to different individual poetics, all touched by the fascination of this element that dominates the city’s extraordinary late antique-Byzantine mosaic heritage.
