Tales of Invisible Cities

The idea of the project, curated by Linda Kniffitz and CNA Ravenna, is to embrace the theme suggested by the Ravenna Festival, which celebrates the centenary of the birth of the Italian writer Italo Calvino with the title of one of his renowned The Invisible Cities. These are sometimes desolate places, sometimes full of people and merchandise, cities imagined in the distance in the middle of the sand, or cities by the sea, in which we find references to magnificent gardens, ships, fortresses, exotic animals or jellyfish. The theme of the Invisible Cities prompted the mosaicists to find a connection between the pictorial work of the Jordanian artists they chose to work on and the countless suggestions offered by the Italian writer, creating a visionary bridge between Italy and Jordan, in which mosaics, painting and poetry come together as one. The project includes a collaboration with Jordanian artists in the context of the Ravenna Festival and Maestro Muti’s concert in Jerash.
