Dedication of the Library of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna to Isotta Fiorentini Roncuzzi (1925–2016).
Isotta Fiorentini Roncuzzi devoted her entire life to mosaics, and the Library of the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna has been named in her honour. She was an unforgettable teacher, first at the State Institute of Art for Mosaics from its foundation in 1959, then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna and at the School for Mosaic Restoration in Ravenna during the 1980s and 1990s. After graduating in Chemistry, she began her research into mosaic art in the 1950s, establishing a new discipline that brought her worldwide renown: the study of mosaic techniques, both ancient and contemporary. In 1964, Tecnologia del Mosaico was the first of numerous publications. In 1980, together with Peter Fischer, she founded the International Association of Contemporary Mosaic Artists, of which she was president for many years. As the first organiser of the Mosaic Biennale in 1976, she contributed to the Parco della Pace project (1980–1988). To promote the excellence of Ravenna’s mosaic art, she founded the Associazione Mosaicisti in 1982. Throughout her career as a scholar, she gave lectures and took part in conferences all over the world.
