Dimensione Mosaico – To-Mò
To-Mo’ or Tomo: a homonymy that is no coincidence.
Tomo as a piece of something greater.
To Mo’, a Romagna dialectal expression of amazement and wonder at seeing words transformed into a mosaic.
The Tomo becomes a vessel for fragments of marble and glass, just as it is itself part of something greater: an encyclopaedia. Encyclopaedia: a term coined by Aristotle and defined by Strabo, Plutarch and Athenaeus as ‘that which encompasses the entire educational cycle’. An encyclopaedia is a reference work that contains, in alphabetical order, the sum total of human knowledge. It is a work in constant evolution and growth, which changes in form over time but not in content. With ‘Dimensione Mosaico con TO-MO’’, the aim was to emphasise the concept of wonder. Inside each volume, there is in fact a work that uses the mosaic technique to interpret a concept linked to the corresponding volume. The Encyclopaedia is transformed into MOSAICOPEDIA and becomes, in its own right, a small wunderkammer.
