Mosaic schools.
In 1959, the Art Institute for Mosaics was founded, dedicated to Gino Severini, the renowned Futurist painter and sculptor who had a personal interest in mosaics; it is the only school in Europe to train mosaic artists specialising both in the creation and restoration of ancient works and in the creation of modern pieces, which are increasingly used in the decoration and architectural design of street furniture.
The Academy of Fine Arts in Ravenna, which opened way back in 1829, places mosaics at the centre as a contemporary visual language, in a city as rich in history and culture as Ravenna.
Mosaics are therefore presented as a fascinating language in which tradition and modernity intertwine.
