Helen Bodycomb, Joanna Kessel – Transient Nature | Natura Mutevole
Opening: 18 October at 5,30 p.m.
Transient Nature | Natura Mutevole is a two-person exhibition bringing together the works of visual artists Dr Helen Bodycomb PHD (Australia) and Joanna Kessel MA RCA (Scotland, UK). The artists first met at Ravenna Mosaico in 2011 and quickly established a creative dialogue that straddled continents and occasional meetings in Italy. It is appropriate that their first major joint exhibition be in Ravenna. In this show both artists consider arrangements of objects and combine observation with imagination. The 2025 Ravenna Biennale, featuring the works of pre-eminent modernist Marc Chagall whose works traversed wide ranging media, offers a compelling platform for experimentation.
Transient Nature | Natura Mutevole delves into the fluid tensions between time, memory and imagination, simultaneously engaging with and challenging the conventions of mosaic, painting, and sculpture. Through a dynamic interplay of materials—including hand-pulled glass filati, glass smalti, latex, concrete, resin, oil paint, and faux fur—Bodycomb and Kessel have created a series of mixed media installations that explore some of the restless and shifting characteristics of life, to be found amongst us.
